GAILORD × PHOTON · PHOTON #1 — 2026

From photon to reality

The method behind every PHOTON work: how an elementary light event becomes an image, and how that image can be brought back to the event it came from.

The seven stages

  1. 01

    Source

A word, a photo, a screenshot, a live camera capture or an AI reference image. The source is never displayed as is: it is read in luminance and becomes a probability map of detection.

  2. 02

    Emission

Each detection draws one event at a time. Density and speed set the emission rate: a low rate keeps the pure photon regime, a high rate builds an image.

  3. 03

    Time as colour

The arrival time of each event is coded by the spectral palette. Two palettes can be mixed to obtain an intermediate time signature, or rotate automatically along the accumulation.

  4. 04

    Depth and relief

Local luminance gradients give a normal, lit by one to three sources. Relief turns the flat statistical field into volume, with a specular response that follows the light.

  5. 05

    Reconstruction

The reality slider compresses the noise floor, contracts the dots and raises the contrast: the same field moves from raw event to photographic reading, and back.

  6. 06

    Extension and inversion

Extension reframes the field beyond its own boundaries, inversion negates the light. Both are reversible, so a work always remains an ongoing state, never a fixed file.

  7. 07

    Fixing

A frozen state is a seed, a palette, a set of parameters and an integrity hash. That signature is what the certificate of authenticity carries.

The axis, live

Move the reality, extension and invert sliders, or load one of the presets, to travel the full axis on a single field.
